PDO project gets LEED building certification
Petroleum Development Oman’s (PDO) Ras Al Hamra (RAH) Development Project has been awarded an international green building certification recognized as an international symbol of sustainability achievement and leadership.
The project achieved the LEED accreditation for implementing practical and measurable strategies and solutions in areas including sustainable site development, energy efficiency, water savings, minimizing greenhouse gas emissions, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality.
Several types of townhouses and villas in the project were awarded the LEED Platinum rating, an achievement that is the first of its kind in Oman and the region. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), which was developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), is the most widely used green building rating system in the world.
Through design, construction, and operations practices that improve environmental and human health, LEED-certified buildings are preventing pollution impacts during construction and waste diversion from landfills to contribute to the circular economy.
RAH Development Project Manager Eng. Jaber Al Siyadi said: “The project is a prime example of how the innovative work of project teams can create local solutions that contribute to making a global difference. It is also a key contributor to the transformation of the way our buildings are built, designed, and operated to the highest levels of sustainability.
“We are delighted to contribute to the sustainability of the country, in line with Oman Vision 2040, and to the green design standards in our modern development of RAH. The LEED accreditation means the project is moving towards meeting international sustainability standards by achieving efficiency and creating healthy indoor environments. It also drives project excellence and best practice for all initiatives to build sustainable and modern cities in Oman.”
RAH LEED-certified homes have significant environmental benefits with lower carbon emissions and higher water savings compared to baseline conventional villas. This in turn reduces operational and maintenance costs conserve resources while prioritizing sustainable practices and human health.
