Muscat voted for Tesla Supercharger location

Muscat: The capital Muscat has been voted as one of the sites for the Supercharger Installation Programme. Apart from Muscat, in the Sultanate of Oman, the cities selected outside the United States are Poland, Spain, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Currently, Tesla owns and operates around 40,000+ superchargers in the world, mostly located on major routes near amenities.

According to Tesla, the company will manage the construction and operation of superchargers, including maintenance.

The company adds the ideal hosting sites can support eight or more individual parking stalls and provide a hospitable charging experience with amenities such as restaurants, groceries, shops, restrooms and Wi-Fi.

The applicants including private property managers and local municipalities, who wish to host superchargers, must submit their proposals which will be reviewed by Tesla.

Tesla will review the application and contact those interested to share more details and the company will make the final selection based on market needs and the location of the business.

According to market experts, with electric vehicles beginning to dominate the industry, Tesla superchargers can provide users with direct current fast charging.

The supercharger hosts in their application must provide options for grocery stores, restaurants, shopping centres, etc.

It may be noted that the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology is working on developing the infrastructure for eclectic vehicles by providing charging stations in line with the Authority for Public Services Regulation.

Dr Ali bin Amer al Shaidhani, Under-Secretary for Communications and Information Technology, said that the ministry is working with automobile dealers to ensure that 79 per cent of the cars on the roads will be electrically driven by 2035.

Earlier, the government said it wants to ensure that motorists can move from Muscat to Salalah and back in electric vehicles without worrying about finding stations with charge units.
