UN official hails Oman's sustainable development success

NEW YORK: Dr Rola Dashti, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), has appreciated Oman's remarkable progress in its comprehensive and sustainable development journey. Oman's Vision 2040 goals, aimed at achieving sustainable growth, are yielding positive outcomes by elevating the country's credit rating, investment opportunities and financial status in the region.

During her visit to the Sultanate of Oman's delegation headquarters at the United Nations, Dr Dashti met with Dr Mohammed bin Awad al Hassan, the Permanent Representative of Oman to the United Nations.

The meeting encompassed discussions on various areas of collaboration between Oman and ESCWA, including statistics, women and children's welfare, empowerment of youth, and enhancing Oman's competitiveness in the fields of science and technology.

Highlighting the high percentage of young people in Oman's population, Dr Dashti emphasised that the country's vibrant youth demographic would contribute positively to its economy, infusing vitality and diversifying income sources for Omani citizens.

She expressed the United Nations' and ESCWA's eagerness for enhanced cooperation with Oman and other member states of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, recognising their increasingly interconnected economies with the global arena.

The commendation from Dr Dashti further validates Oman's commitment to sustainable development, while paving the way for expanded collaboration between the Sultanate and international organisations to achieve common goals. - ONA
