About the Ministry
The Ministry of Energy and Minerals is responsible for leading and developing the oil, gas, renewable energy and mining sectors in the Sultanate by setting policies, implementing plans, supervising operational activities and ensuring the optimal utilisation of natural resources.
Key responsibilities of the Ministry
Planning and policies
- Preparing policies and plans for the energy and minerals sectors and submitting them to the Cabinet.
Implementation of Plans and Studies
- Implementing approved plans and conducting studies to ensure the optimal use of oil, gas and minerals.
Oil and Gas
- Overseeing exploration, drilling and production through concession companies.
- Studying oil and gas markets and developing marketing policies.
- Signing concession agreements and monitoring companies' compliance with legislation
Alternative energy
- Studying energy alternatives and promoting renewable energy and hydrogen projects
Mining
- Conducting geological surveys and mining studies
- Organising and managing mines and quarries and approving designs and quarrying plans.
- Supervising companies operating in the mining sector
International cooperation
- Representing the Sultanate at international events and promoting cooperation with regional and global entities.
Legislation
- Proposing laws and regulations related to energy and minerals and issuing regulatory decisions
