Masdar Strengthens Its Commitment to Oman's Green Energy Sector
Abu Dhabi's renewable energy company, Masdar, is reinforcing its commitment to Oman's green energy sector by exploring new opportunities aligned with the Omani government's low-carbon transition initiatives.
Masdar's Chief Operating Officer, Abdulaziz Alobaidli, highlighted the company's interest in Oman's renewable energy and green hydrogen markets. He noted that Masdar has participated in tenders by Nama Power and Water Company (PWP) and is enhancing its strategies to remain competitive in upcoming bids, with submissions due on January 28, 2025.
Alobaidli also referenced Masdar's role in developing Oman's first wind power plant in Dhofar Governorate, with a capacity of 50 megawatts. This project, executed to high global standards, was handed over to Omani authorities for operation, demonstrating Masdar's support for Oman's energy diversification and environmental sustainability efforts.
Currently, Masdar is engaged in discussions with Omani government and private entities to develop projects in the green hydrogen sector. Alobaidli emphasized Oman's unique natural resources, including high and stable wind speeds, which provide a competitive advantage for energy production in the region.
This strategic focus aligns with Masdar's broader expansion, as the company increased its clean energy capacity to 31.5 GW in 2023 and aims to reach 100 GW by 2030.
