Oman-based renewable energy firm Amin Renewable Energy Company SAOC has announced the availability of International Renewable Energy Certificates (IRECs) for sale. This marks a significant milestone for the company and the region, as it continues to produce over 300,000 IRECs annually since its Commercial Operation Date on May 22, 2020.
The company's initiative is a substantial contribution to the renewable energy sector, providing businesses and organisations with the opportunity to purchase IRECs to offset their carbon footprint and meet sustainability goals. These certificates represent a megawatt-hour of electricity generated from renewable sources, offering a tangible way to support clean energy production and consumption.
The announcement comes in the wake of a significant development in September 2022 when Amin’s 105-MW solar PV plant was registered as the first solar energy project in Oman with a global renewable energy certificate. This registration allows for the linkage of electricity ownership rights from the production site to the consumption site, facilitating the trading and reuse of these certificates towards decarbonisation goals.
The production and sale of IRECs by Amin Renewable Energy align with Oman Vision 2040, which includes goals for industrial decarbonisation and increased renewable energy adoption.
The registration process of the energy units, which exceeded 206MWh, was completed in coordination with the Department of Climate Affairs of the Civil Aviation Authority and Three Pillars Consulting, the local issuer of renewable energy certificates in Oman. This collaboration underscores the commitment of Oman’s government and private sector to advancing the country’s renewable energy landscape.
