Oman has achieved a groundbreaking milestone by ranking 17th globally and first in the Gulf on the Fisheries Index, part of the Global Environmental Performance Index. This reflects Oman’s commitment to sustainable fisheries and marine biodiversity.

Achievements in 2024:

1. Marine Biodiversity Documentation: 122 cartilaginous fish species, 11 tabak fish species, and new species documentation.
2. Improved Global Rankings: Climbed to 54th in the Environmental Performance Index, 17th in Fisheries Index.
3. Sustainability Leadership: Top rankings in bottom trawling and high-seas operations.
4. Scientific Research: 14 programs, including fish stock monitoring and sustainable fisheries projects.
5. Collaborative Efforts: Partnerships for seaweed farming, sustainable feed, and AI in fish biomass tracking.
