Green Hydrogen for Mobility station - Shell Oman
About Gift to the Nation
The Gift to The Nation initiative was first launched in 1995 and follows on every five years, a time at which the company announces the launch of a significant contribution to Omani society. The initiative is a symbol of Shell's deep gratitude to Oman - a country in which it has been present since the 1930s.
The Green Hydrogen for mobility project marks Shell’s 6th Gift to the Nation in Oman.

About the project
- The concept of the 6th gift is to utilize solar power to produce renewable hydrogen for mobility. The project includes the launch of a fully-fledged station:
- Powered by a 120-kW solar system.
- In addition to hydrogen, it will feature 5 fast-charging EV points.
- It will include a Water Recycling System for irrigation using electrolyser wastewater.
- Along with a Vapor Recovery System to cut up to 99% of emissions.
- Onsite production capacity of 130 kg of H2 per day
- Partnerships:
Mwasalat owns and manages the fleet of 15 Hydrogen cars provided by Shell as part of this Gift to the Nation. To operate this, Mwasalat plan to hire Omani drivers and utilize the fleet for corporate use.
Nama’s partnership supports the setup of this project through the provision of green credits
Beyond the project
- Along with partners in Mwasalat and Nama, Shell sees this project as a pace-setter for green hydrogen in Oman.
- Beyond the set up of the station, and the provision of the fleet of 15 Hydrogen cars, the project facilitated the set up of policies that enables similar projects to materialise.
- The project also looks to introduce new technology to Oman, de-risking future investments of a similar nature.
- Shell's partners in Mwasalat, who are managing the fleet, are targeting the employment of Omani social security family members to mobilise the fleet.
Safety
- Shell has experience with various Hydrogen projects, where safety always comes first. All safety measures have been put in place at each stage of the project, including the commissioning, construction, and operating phases of this project. This site will also serve as a demo for best practices to use when scaling up.
