The Sultanate of Oman has emerged as a significant player in the clean energy sector, leveraging its abundant natural and human resources to establish itself as a regional energy and minerals hub. A cornerstone of this transformation is the Oman Institure for Energy, a pioneering organization dedicated to training and developing specialized cadres capable of advancing the energy sector locally and regionally.
A Strategic Evolution
Established in 2018 as the Oman Oil and Gas Institute, the organization recently rebranded as the Oman Institure for Energy on November 10, 2024. This strategic move reflects its expanded mandate to include a broader range of energy fields.
The Institute now encompasses not only traditional oil and gas sectors but also renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and green hydrogen, alongside emerging areas within the mining industry.
“This rebranding aligns with Oman’s vision to adapt to global energy transitions,” says Eng. Nasr bin Nasser Al-Siyabi, Director General of Oman Energy Institute. “Our mission is to contribute to building a sustainable and diversified energy ecosystem by training a skilled workforce ready to lead these transformations.”

Programs for a Transformative Era
OEI offers a wide range of specialized training programs tailored to the evolving energy landscape. These include courses in oil and gas operations, renewable energy, green hydrogen, occupational safety, and soft skills development.
The Institute’s programs emphasize experiential learning, combining theoretical knowledge with hands-on application. Modern training methodologies, such as simulation and virtual reality technologies, are employed to enhance the learning experience. OEI also collaborates with international organizations to ensure its training meets global standards.
Since its inception, the Institute has conducted over 1,000 training courses, benefiting more than 8,000 trainees. These programs address the needs of both individuals and organizations, with a particular focus on equipping Omani youth with skills aligned to the labor market.
Driving Human Capital Development
The Oman Institure for Energy plays a vital role in creating job opportunities for young Omanis, offering specialized courses in partnership with the Ministry of Energy to prepare graduates and job seekers for careers in the energy sector.
“Our vision is to become a leading reference for energy expertise in the region,” Al-Siyabi explains. “Through strategic local and international partnerships, we ensure the application of best practices and the latest technological advancements to invest in human capital.”
Oman’s Broader Energy Vision
Oman is strategically diversifying its energy portfolio to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. Investments in solar and wind energy projects, alongside green hydrogen initiatives, demonstrate the Sultanate’s commitment to sustainability.
The Oman Energy Institute’s expansion and rebranding reflect a broader national strategy to position Oman as a regional leader in energy transition and human resource development.
By investing in education, training, and innovation, Oman not only strengthens its workforce but also reinforces its reputation as a hub for energy excellence in the Middle East.
