Muscat, 26 October 2026 — NoorBridge, a joint initiative between Oman and the Netherlands to develop commercially viable hydrogen supply chains connecting Oman with Europe, has held its first Steering Committee meeting at the Oman Hydrogen Centre in Muscat.
The meeting brought together organisations working across hydrogen production, maritime transport, infrastructure, research and education.
Essam Al Sheibany, Vice President – Sustainability at Asyad Group, was appointed the Steering Committee’s first Chairman. Holland Hydrogen Hub (H3), represented by Marcel Kooter, will act as Secretariat.
Participating organisations included Asyad Group, Hydrom, SOHAR Port and Freezone, Port of Rotterdam, GUtech, Avans University of Applied Sciences, TNO and Holland Hydrogen Hub.
Launched in December 2025 and formalised through an agreement signed at the World Hydrogen Summit in Rotterdam in May 2026, NoorBridge aims to establish practical pathways for hydrogen trade between Oman and European markets.
A major focus will be assessing different methods of transporting hydrogen over long distances, including liquid hydrogen, green ammonia, methanol, synthetic natural gas, liquid organic hydrogen carriers, sodium borohydride and metal-based fuels.
The research will compare costs, energy efficiency, infrastructure needs, environmental impact and logistical feasibility to determine which technologies offer the strongest commercial potential.
NoorBridge also builds on growing cooperation between Oman and the Netherlands, including a July 2026 visit by an Omani delegation led by Minister of Energy and Minerals Salim bin Nasser Al Aufi.
The programme complements a separate Oman–Netherlands–Germany initiative to establish a liquid hydrogen export corridor linking Duqm, Amsterdam and Duisburg. While that initiative focuses on a specific commercial supply chain, NoorBridge will explore a wider range of transport technologies and research partnerships.
The inaugural meeting marks a further step towards translating bilateral hydrogen cooperation into practical industrial, technological and logistical opportunities.
