Live: Two solar projects to generate 1,500 MW of electricity

Muscat: The Authority for Public Services Regulation (APSR) held a media meeting to highlight the achievements of 2023 and the performance of companies operating in the electricity, water, sanitation, gas, and waste transportation sectors.

Highlights:

The Royal Decree was issued to promulgate the Water and Sanitation Regulation Law, which helped to create clear policies for the related sectors

Residential and non-residential connection fees have been reduced by more than 70%, based on the royal directives to provide social protection.

The actual reading rates in the electricity sector increased to 97%, and in the water sector to 75%, and the working days required to deliver the service to subscribers in these two sectors were reduced.

Plans to rationalize energy consumption in some government institution buildings through renewable and clean energy by 30%.

Omanization of the profession of licensed electrical inspectors increased by 300%, with 1,055 Omani employees.

Omanization of the natural gas transportation sector increased by 94%.

Last year, Nama Energy and Water Purchase Company got approval to assign two solar energy projects to international investors, in the wilayat of Manah - 1,500 MW of electricity will be produced.

The total investment in the two projects will be more than RO300 million.

Meanwhile, the Ibri 3 solar energy station project has been launched, with a capacity to produce up to 500 megawatts.

Around 91 percent of the complaints received in 2023 were resolved, and the average period to respond to complaints decreased by 40%.

The complaints were received from 0.2 percent of subscribers from all sectors.

Over 676,000 smart electricity meters have been installed so far, in addition to 332,000 smart meters in the water sector.

The home wastewater treatment plants project will speed up the coverage of sewage or sanitation services and reduce the operational costs of wastewater networks and stations.

The merger of electricity companies contributed to raising efficiency, reducing costs, maximizing financial performance, and increasing investments in the sector.

The new stations for producing electricity with wind energy will increase the contribution of renewable energy to 30% of the total electrical energy production in 2030.

Electricity service subscribers can claim direct compensation from companies if they do not comply with quality standards.

The five new stations to produce electricity with wind energy are Dhofar 2 station with a capacity of 132 MW, Sadah station with a capacity of 99 MW, #Duqm station with a capacity of 270 MW, Mahout station with a capacity of 400 MW, and Jalan Bani Bu Ali station with a capacity of 105 MW.
