MoE launches Renewable Energy Award for students

Muscat – In an effort to underline the critical role of renewable energy and its significance in daily life, the Ministry of Education (MoE), backed by Petroleum Development Oman, has announced the sixth iteration of the PDO Renewable Energy Award for the academic year 2023/2024.

This initiative, under the theme ‘Zero Carbon Neutrality’, is directed at students from Grades 7 to 12 across both public and private schools.

The award strives to bolster the understanding and adoption of renewable energy among students as a tangible alternative to traditional fossil fuels. It stands as a clarion call for innovative approaches to curtail carbon emissions, fostering technical skills and environmental awareness among the youth. ‘This proactive approach directly contributes to the wider environmental goals of reducing the adverse impacts on our planet,’ a press release said.

Coinciding with the award’s announcement, a promotional film and bilingual posters were unveiled, encouraging student participation.

A registration link is now accessible for prospective entrants on MoE’s social media accounts, providing detailed information on the award’s prerequisites. Additionally, to further support and guide participants, a series of remote training sessions and workshops will be conducted by seasoned experts.

The award’s progression encompasses four stages: announcement, initial screening, evaluation of submissions and final evaluation. The culmination will see the victorious teams announced at Oman Sustainability Week, scheduled from April 28 to May 2, 2024 at Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Since its inception in 2017/2018, the award has consistently amplified the emphasis on renewable energy’s practical applications in daily life. It champions real-world implementation and production of renewable energy solutions within and beyond school premises, reinforcing the award’s enduring commitment to fostering a sustainable, energy-efficient future for all.
