Oman, Belgium review ties in energy sector

Muscat – His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik received a written message from Phillippe Leopold Louis Marie, King of the Belgians focussed on the bilateral relations between Oman and Belgium.

The message was handed over to Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidi, Foreign Minister, when he received in Muscat Hadja Lahbib, Belgian Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Affairs and Foreign Trade and the Federal Cultural Institutions, on Friday.

During the meeting, the guest conveyed greetings of the King of the Belgians to His Majesty the Sultan. She expressed gratitude for the efforts Oman made to secure the release of a Belgian citizen, as well as two Austrians and a Danish citizen recently.

As far as the bilateral relations between Oman and Belgium are concerned, the two ministers lauded the progress witnessed in various areas viz., economy, trade, investment and culture.

They also commended the cooperation between Duqm Port and the Port of Antwerp, stressing the importance of expanding the cooperation to cover other fields, particularly in the renewable energy projects and green hydrogen production.

“Delighted to receive FM Hadja Lahbib of Belgium. We reviewed the progress in our bilateral relations, and focused on expanding and diversifying our common interests, especially in renewable energy, green hydrogen, and logistics,” Sayyid Badr tweeted.

The two sides also underlined their keenness to expand cultural, academic and student exchange programmes and cooperation in the fields of science and technology, as well as promoting tourism and investment opportunities between the two countries.

Both sides affirmed that they will continue exchanging views on both regional and international issues for peaceful solutions.

“In Muscat, I personally conveyed to my Omani counterpart Sayyid Badr our deep gratitude and recognition for the valuable role Oman played as a facilitator in the liberation of Olivier Vandecasteele, two Austrian citizens and one Dane. We also discussed our bilateral relations, as well as regional and global security,” tweeted Hadja.

“Finally, I exchanged views with the Omani transport minister, Said al Ma’awali on our common economic projects,” she added.
