MUSCAT: Oman is seeking to strengthen energy cooperation with Singapore, with a focus on renewable energy, hydrogen development and investment opportunities, as part of efforts to expand international partnerships and accelerate the Sultanate's energy transition.
His Excellency Eng. Salim bin Nasser Al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals, represented Oman at Singapore International Energy Week 2026, where he held discussions with senior government officials and energy industry representatives.
During the visit, Al Aufi met with Dr Tan See Leng, Singapore's minister responsible for energy, trade and industry, alongside officials from the Energy Market Authority and executives of leading Singaporean energy companies.
The discussions centred on expanding bilateral investment opportunities, developing renewable energy and hydrogen infrastructure, strengthening associated supply chains and facilitating technological cooperation between the two countries.
Addressing the summit, Al Aufi underscored the importance of maintaining open energy markets and uninterrupted international energy trade to safeguard supply security and strengthen the resilience of global energy systems.
He highlighted the role of reliable international partnerships in promoting market stability, supporting supply chain development and enabling the exchange of technology and industry expertise.
The minister also outlined Oman's competitive advantages as an international energy investment destination, including its established oil and gas industry, abundant solar and wind resources, strategic port infrastructure and stable regulatory environment.
These capabilities, he noted, provide a foundation for attracting long-term investment and strengthening Oman's position within international energy markets.
Al Aufi further highlighted the Sultanate's ongoing efforts to increase renewable energy generation and expand energy storage capacity, with the objective of improving domestic energy supply reliability and supporting sustainable development.
As part of the official visit, the minister toured the Hydrogen and Carbon Innovation Centre at the National University of Singapore, where he reviewed research initiatives and emerging technologies related to hydrogen and carbon management.
He also visited a battery energy storage facility on Jurong Island and a floating solar power installation operated by Sembcorp. The visits provided insights into Singapore's deployment of renewable energy and advanced storage technologies to improve electricity system efficiency and reliability.
The engagement reflects Oman's continued efforts to deepen international energy cooperation, attract strategic investment and support the development of renewable energy and hydrogen industries.
